Bensons for Beds buys 19 Carpetright shops | NESMAG

Furniture chain Bensons for Beds has purchased 19 Carpetright shops after the flooring retailer collapsed into administration in July.

It stated it hopes to create job alternatives for former Carpetright employees when the retailers reopen beneath the Bensons model.

Carpetright went bust after slower buyer demand and a cyber assault in April which hit restructuring plans.

It employed greater than 1,800 individuals and had 273 shops throughout the UK earlier than it went into insolvency.

Carpetright’s model, mental property, 54 of its shops and two warehouses had been purchased by rival Tapi weeks later.

But Carpetright’s collapse led to the closure of greater than 200 of its different shops and redundancy for greater than 1,000 workers.

Bensons chief government Nick Collard stated growing the variety of its shops was a precedence for the furnishings retailer.

It desires to bump up the quantity from 162 retailers at current to greater than 200 over the following few years.

PwC joint administrator Rachael Wilkinson stated: “We’re pleased to have reached an agreement for the sale of 19 former Carpetright stores to Bensons for Beds, and echo their hopes that the transaction will create future employment opportunities for former Carpetright employees.”

Carpetright was based in 1988, and bumped into bother in April when gross sales slumped following a cyber-attack that put it is on-line ordering system out of motion.

But it had been fighting slowing client demand for a while.

In July the boss of Tapi stated he was “desperately sad” to not have been in a position to save extra buyer orders and jobs.
